Seventy Peace Corps volunteers (myself included) left San Francisco on July 8 for Tokyo, Japan. We had a two hour layover in Narita Airport before departing for Manila, Philippines. We lost fifteen hours in the process but everyone gained a respect for Delta Airline's ability to handle large groups of travelers with mounts of luggage. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very efficient and gracious Peace Corps staff who guided us through customs, collected our luggage, took our picture and put us on a bus for RR11, a camp for adults. We had a full four hours sleep before beginning the new day. This is a necessary evil that seasoned travelers have learned. Get on the schedule of your new country right away and you will equalize in a day or two. This is truly the experience of a lifetime and if you stay with me through this blog, you will get a taste of what I see and hear.
