Raccoons
Sitting in one of my favorite restaurants, the Wildflower Grill, in Lincoln City, Oregon offered some unusual entertainment along with an outstanding seafood dinner. The resident raccoon decided that it was his dinner time as well as ours and he came up from the lake to loiter around the refuse cans. He was not scared off by the people and sauntered off when they appeared to dump trash. He then returned and used nimble fingers to pick through the leftover. Raccoons are becoming a problem in small cities where the animal control no longer has the manpower to relocate the masked varmints. We have had to deal with moles, beavers, groundhogs and other residents on our own for the last few years. I have to say that I have a soft spot for this ringed tailed, masked varmint that sleeps in hallow trees by day and stocks our cabin deck by night.
