Highway 80 to Donner Lake

My friend, Jeanette, offered to accompany me on a spectacular weekend at Tahoe and there is no one who knows the hidden secrets and trails better.  We started up Highway 80 and soon exited at the Rainbow Lodge.  Unfortunately, it was still closed for the season but we peeked in the windows and explored the grounds.  Then. off we went to Truckee where we stepped back in time.  The streets are lined with shops and restaurants and attractive displays of flowers are everywhere  From this lovely little town, we headed to Donner Lake via the Rainbow Bridge.  Cyclists competed with drivers for road space and it surprised me to see so many bikers without helmets.   Rock climbers and hikers were along the road and the scenery was amazing. The railroad tunnels are set into the rock face and new signage recounts the history of the area.
