Lillian Coit Memorial Tower

San Francisco has wonderful sites to visit and explore.  Among the best is the Lillian Coit Memorial Tower in the Telegraph Hill District.  Lillian left a third of her estate as an endowment to the arts and in 1933, the city elected to build a tower that is filled with fresco murals.  There are twenty-seven artists represented in a variety of art deco works.  You will find many of the works in the mural rotunda.  These can be viewed at no cost.  If you want to see the murals on the spiral stairway, you will need to go to the tower on a Saturday morning @11:00. There is an observation deck that is located just 32 feet below the top.  From this deck, you have a fabulous view of the water and the surrounding area.  The tower itself is 210 feet tall. Wear your tennis shoes, as there is a climb to access the tower but it is worth the trip.
